Porter: Emily’s refusal to accept corporate PAC money means that voters can trust her to do what’s right
BREMERTON, WA— Today, national Democratic champion Congresswoman Katie Porter of California’s 47th Congressional District announced her strong endorsement of State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Emily Randall’s campaign for Congress.
Emily Randall’s campaign for Washington’s open 6th Congressional District has now received the endorsements of nine sitting members of Congress. In addition to Rep. Porter, Emily’s endorsements include Senator Patty Murray, Rep. Marilyn Strickland, and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.
“I’m proud to endorse Emily Randall, because she will always fight for what families need, not what corporations want,” said Rep. Katie Porter. “I have seen firsthand in Congress how issues like disability justice aren’t made a priority, because too many politicians are busy catering to their corporate donors and their bottom lines. Emily’s refusal to accept corporate PAC money and her personal story caring for a sister with complex medical needs mean that voters can trust her to do what’s right.”
Congresswoman Katie Porter was first elected in 2018 and quickly became one of the most recognizable members of the US House of Representatives, developing a national reputation for her progressive values and her trademark whiteboard that she used in committee hearings to explain complicated policy proposals. Porter flipped a Republican-held swing district and won two additional highly competitive elections, defeating millions of dollars in outside Republican spending.
Senator Emily Randall said, “Congresswoman Porter is a champion for regular people across the country, and I’m incredibly proud to have her endorsement. My family’s experiences help make me a better policymaker — I saw firsthand the positive impact that government could have when my youngest sister, who was born with complex medical needs, was able to get the care she needed thanks to Washington state’s Medicaid expansion. We didn’t have it easy, but this access helped improve my sister’s quality of life without bankrupting our family. I look forward to continuing the fight for regular people in Congress — to cut healthcare costs and defend reproductive freedom for Washingtonians in the 6th District and across the state.”
Rep. Porter’s endorsement is yet another major piece of news for Emily’s campaign. Last week, Emily received the sole endorsement of the Pierce County Democrats, and was awarded the 2024 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. Emily is also the only candidate in the race supported by the Washington Federation of State Employees, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), District 751, and UA Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters. These labor unions joined Planned Parenthood Action Fund and League of Conservation Voters Action Fund in endorsing Emily.
Additionally, Emily’s campaign released a poll that shows Emily in a commanding double-digit lead over opponent Franz after voters learn basic information about the three candidates in the race. Read the polling memo HERE for more information.
